Clubs Sharing Assembly
Here is the video we made for sharing at clubs assembly. It was fun dancing like a robot. by Nathan
Week 5
In our final week we decided that we would try to finish the course. The robot Gods were against us. We got to the curve and had run out of time. Unfortunately Mr. Martens didn't have his camera with him so we were unable to take any video.
Week 4
The challenge was set right at the beginning of today's lesson. The challenge was simple, get the robot round the course!! It sounded simple but the reality was different. It took us the whole hour and a half to get him a third of the way around the course. Even Mr. Martens and Miss Ross had to get involved because it wasn't working!! In the end we got him to go smoothly through the first third (after about 100 tries). The children we're really happy with the results as it was a big struggle. Next week we will try to continue on our journey. Check out the videos!!

Week 3
Today we got to use the ultra sonic sensor and the touch sensor. The ultra sonic sensor detects objects in front of it and can stop the exact distance away from it. Our challenge this week was to get our robot to drag down a straight and stop in front of the ball stand without hitting it. We couldn't make him stop straight away we had to let him coast so getting the distance right was vital. Here are some videos of our attempts.

Week 2
This week saw us learning to turn our robot and getting him to back into a garage. The challenge this week was to get the robot to go around the whiteboard using point turns and curve turns. Here are some videos to show how we did.

Week 1
Lucas, Jackson, Tama, Micheal, John, Tim, Nathan, Ben and Mr. Martens are doing Lego Mindstorm Robotics for clubs in Term 3. We started the club by looking at the NXT block and made sure that all the parts were working. We then got straight into building the driving base for the NXT block. Everyone had a go at putting different parts together. We had to follow instructions in pictures and found that some times we got it wrong so had to problem solve to find where we had made our mistakes. Some times it took a few steps to even find we had made a mistake.
This weeks challenge was to work out how many wheel rotations it would take for the driving base to cover 2 metres without going over. We would know if it went to far because it would knock over Jim (our lego man). First we saw how far 1 wheel rotation was then had to use maths to work out the rest. In the end we discovered through trial and error it would take about 11.675 rotations for it to cover the distance. Ben and Nathan won this weeks challenge by guessing the closest. Here are some videos and photos from our first week.
